5 Hand Pool Tips for Your First Night on the Table
October 16, 2026

You can learn hand pool billiards in about five minutes. Playing it well takes a little longer. These tips will get you there faster.
1. Shake out your wrist
Roll your wrist and loosen your fingers before the break. A tense hand sends the white ball wild, and a loose one gives you touch.
2. Let go early
The rules say the white ball must leave your hand before it hits the target ball. Practice a clean release so your shots don't get called as a push.
3. Love the rails
Your hand drags on the felt, which takes some speed off. A bank shot off the rail can rescue an awkward angle.
4. Play the next shot, too
Sinking a ball is half the job. In hand pool, as in regular pool, where the white ball stops decides your next shot.
5. Don't take it seriously
Hand pool is meant to be loud and laughed at. The best shots are the ones nobody expected. Grab the official rules at HandPool.com and go play.
